Dr Jaafar graduated from Sheffield medical school in 1998 and initially pursued a career in hospital medicine, with specialist training in respiratory medicine. During his specialist training he decided to re-train as a General Practitioner, having completed this training in 2007. He is now a GP partner at a North Lincolnshire practice. He continues practicing respiratory medicine at Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals.
He has been involved in teaching pathophysiology to Acupuncture students and more recently teaching Anatomy and Physiology modules to Herbal students at Lincoln College.
Dr Jaafar holds post graduate qualifications from the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of General Practitioners. In addition he has a Masters degree in Respiratory Disease management and a Post Graduate diploma in geriatric medicine (Royal College of Physicians).
