Karl Bedson is a Lecturer on the BSc (Hons) in Clinical Herbalism.
Karl is an Higher Education lecturer for the BSc (Hons) in Clinical Herbalism, where he teaches many subjects but mainly History, Philosophy and Evidence, Health and Disease, Advanced Herbal Therapeutics and Clinical skills.
Karl is a registered Medical Herbalist with the National Institute of Medical Herbalists and a registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Council. He is a married father of two teenage girls and a health professional for over two decades, both within the NHS and in private practice, with a stake in both Orthodox and Herbal Medicine, as well as advanced diagnostic and treatment techniques such as Physiomedical Tissue States, cutting edge Autonomic Nervous System dysfunction, Blood Stasis, etc.
After a hard-working career within the NHS, both in England and Scotland, as well as with Marie Curie Cancer care, specialising in triage, wound-care, community, and palliative health, before peaking as a Nurse Practitioner with NHS24. Karl discovered Herbal Medicine use whilst a District Nurse within Royal Deeside (Aberdeenshire), observing a Ballater GP suggest its use for some Balmoral Estate residents, and gaining results rarely witnessed in all his nursing years. All whilst farming his smallholding, growing herbs, vegetables and farming sheep, pigs, chickens and ducks in an open plan, organic and sustainable way.
After moving south to Derbyshire, Karl created an award-winning herbal skincare range and went on to gain a first-class honours degree in Herbal Medicine at the University of Lincoln. He started and ran a successful Derbyshire practice, utilising skills, and traits from both his varied nursing roles and medical herbalism, by treating all his patients at his beautiful 17th century Bakewell clinic, The Brambles Herbal Medicine Practice, within their own home or via online Zoom appointments where Karl can diagnose using orthodox clinical diagnostic skills, cutting edge Autonomic Nervous System analysis and foundational physiomedical tissue states, blood stasis, etc, to give a full holistic assessment before treating with herbs chosen for every level of health imbalances, illnesses, and maximising health potential, along with nutritional and lifestyle advice.
Karl is interested in and specialises in chronic conditions, diabetes, stress concerns, mental health, palliative care, circulation, wound care, men’s problems, nervous conditions, skin health, gut concerns, grief, and sets of symptoms that defy a diagnosis. He regularly give talks and self-help instruction to support groups and undertakes herb walks.
