A new comprehensive guide to seasonal herbalism is set to inspire readers to rediscover the healing power of wild plants when Wild Medicine: A Seasonal Journey with Medicinal Plants – Complete Edition is published this May.
Ali English is the Course Lead for the BSc (Hons) Clinical Herbalism degree at Lincoln College University Centre. Her new book brings together years of knowledge, practice, and passion into a single, comprehensive guide to seasonal herbalism.
Beautifully illustrated with Ali’s own photography, Wild Medicine offers an accessible and inspiring introduction to wild foraging and hedgerow medicine. Designed for beginners and experienced practitioners alike, the book takes readers through the four seasons, highlighting the abundance of medicinal plants found across the UK, Europe, and parts of North America.
The complete edition builds on Ali’s earlier seasonal volumes - Winter and Autumn, Spring, and Summer -bringing them together into one revised and expanded resource.
It features A–Z plant monographs organised by season, alongside easy-to-follow recipes for herbal remedies and edible creations. New additions include expanded plant profiles, updated guidance on foraging and medicine-making, a section on growing wild herbs, and an extended equipment list.
Ali’s work reflects a lifelong dedication to herbalism. Her interest in plants began at the age of 13, eventually leading her to train at university, graduating in 2009. Since then, she has established a successful practice in Lincolnshire, offering herb walks, workshops, and educational experiences that encourage a deeper connection with native plants and wild spaces.
In her role as Course Lead on the BSc (Hons) Clinical Herbalism degree at Lincoln College University Centre, Ali brings this same enthusiasm and expertise to her students, inspiring the next generation of herbal practitioners.
Speaking about the book, Ali emphasises its core message: “This book is all about reconnecting people with the natural world.
“Wild Medicine encourages readers not only to learn about plants, but to engage with them - whether through foraging, creating remedies, or cultivating wild herbs at home.”
This upcoming publication is set to be an essential resource for herbal students, practitioners, and anyone interested in natural health and sustainability.
